If somebody asks, what is the country that celebrate more festivals. Yes.... The answer would be Sri Lanka. Because festivals are common,... in a country where the people of four races and four regions live together.
Religious festivals :
Hindu festivals : Thaipongal, Mahasivarathri, Deepavali
Buddhist festivals :Nawam, Wesak, Poson , Esala
Islamic festivals : Ramazan, Hajji, Mila dun Nabhi

Independence day, sinhala tamil New year, May day, 31 night These festivals are spread throughout the year. Wherever you come to Sri Lanka it can be a festive occasion. They are very colourful and celebrated with great beauty.Every one in this country celebrate Christmas while everyone celebrate the birthday of Buddha where falls on the month of May. That is the unity between all regions and it’s worth to see.
Esala festivals
Esala falls on months of July and August. In that period there are two grand festivals celebrating in Central part and southern part of Sri Lanka.
Kandy situated in Central province and it is the last kingdom of Sri Lanka and also world heritage site. Kandy Esala procession....... A marvellous pageant that parade along the city of Kandy with lots of fascinating events. Drum beaters, kandyan dancers, whip crackers, flag bearers, fire ball dancers do their best to this pageant. The large number of elephants and tuskers March in the Royal glory in this procession and they are dressed with colourful costumes. This is the only procession in the world which is held for ten days along with than fifty elephants and tuskers and more than thousand participants with many events.
This pageant is a symbol of Sri Lanka. It’s amazing to see.
Meanwhile the other Esala festival is held in southern part and it is called Kataragama Esala procession. This procession also be held in way that is not second to the Kandy pageant.

Every house and every where is decorated with bulbs, many kinds of lanterns. Sometimes you see puppet shows on the road. Huge pandols could be seen in streets that can’t take your eye away from them for long period. People come to streets with food with them, offer those free to people who passing by. While you going through the streets watching those celebrations, definitely you are served by some food, tea, coffee, ice-cream or cup of herbal drink from the citizens with a smile..
Gangarama Nawam procession is another festival that one can see in the month of February. It is held in the city of colombo. It’s amazing to see that kind of pageant in busy town like Colombo.

Ramayanaya Trail
Ramayana....... A great Indian epic written in ancient period. This story related to divinity. Prince Rama.... The seventh avatar of God Vishnu and his wife Sita are the main characters of this legend. King Rawana was the villain according to this legend.
King Rawana was ruler for Lanka pura. Lanka pura in Ramayana is Sri Lanka today. Much of the in this story has taken place in Sri Lanka.
